As part of precautions against MERS-CoV, the Health Ministry established four rapid-response teams in the northern, southern, central and Central Highlands regions on June 5.

According to Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long, the teams will constantly watch out for the regions they are in charge of and are ready make quick response when there is suspected or real case of MERS-CoV infection.

The northern group, led by Director Tran Dac Phu of the Department of Preventative Medicine under the Health Ministry , is also responsible to support other regions when necessary.

Long urged the team leaders to work closely with the local Steering Committees for preventing MERS-CoV in coordinating preventative measures and handling relevant issues.

An online training conference on preventing the disease is scheduled to take place on June 8 with the participation of public and private hospitals and medical centres nationwide.

MERS-CoV (the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus) is a viral respiratory illness that is caused by Corona virus and has high fatality rate. It was first identified in Saudi Arabia in 2012 and has spread to over 26 countries in the world with 1,154 cases of infection and 434 reported fatalities.-VNA
