Ministry strives to create more jobs for the disabled

The Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) is directing the incorporation of vocational training for people with disabilities into national target programmes on employment to provide a strong support for vocational training for those disadvantaged people.

Theinformation was unveiled by Deputy Minister of Labour, Invalids andSocial Affairs Nguyen Trong Dam at a ceremony in Hanoi on April 17to honour disabled employees and businesses operating for the disabled.

Damsaid his ministry is screening the existing vocational trainingmechanism toward a more flexible one with closer cooperation betweendomestic and foreign businesses to better the effectiveness ofvocational training and job creation for people with disabilities.

Atthe event, the MoLISA official highly valued the US Government, theVietnam Assistance for the Handicapped (VNAH), and the Vietnam Chamberof Commerce and Industry (VCCI) for their joint practical initiatives togenerate jobs for disabled people.

VCCI DeputyChairman Pham Gia Tuc said that since September 2007, the chamber hascoordinated with VNAH and the US Agency for International Development(USAID) to establish the Blue Ribbon Employer Council (BREC), whichprovides technical assistance for employers which recruit people withdisabilities.

From its initial 25 businesses andorganisations in and outside the country, the BREC has by far had 160members, creating stable jobs for over 2,000 disabled people nationwide.

The council also provides consultancy for jobplacement and vocational training centres on job skills required byemployers.

In response to the Vietnam Day forPeople with Disabilities (April 18), the southern province of Binh Dinh,home to more than 32,000 disabled people and orphans, on April 17praised 31 orphans and households with disabled members, who havesurmounted difficulties to better their lives.

Meanwhile, disabled children in the Central Highlands province ofKon Ton have a chance to play games and speak out their dreams at atwo-day festival, which also kicked off on April 17.

A wide range of activities took place in central Da Nang city onApril 16 to help the disabled integrate deeper into society.-VNA
