- President Vo Van Thuong hosted a reception in Hanoi on April 20 for Thongsavanh Phomvihane, head of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations.
Thuong expressed his belief that Thongsavanh Phomvihane’s visit, the first in his new position, will contribute to strengthening cooperation between the Commissions for External Relations of the two Parties, thus raising the efficiency of comprehensive collaboration between the two Parties and countries in the time ahead. - Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala has arrived in Hanoi, beginning an official visit to Vietnam from April 20 to 22 at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh.
The trip is the first to Asia by Fiala since taking office at the end of 2021 and the first of a head of the Czech Government to Vietnam in 15 years. Given sound growth of the countries’ traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation, it reflects the Vietnamese and Czech leaders' appreciation of and desire to strengthen the bilateral relations. - The Cuban media has run articles highlighting the ongoing official visit to Cuba by Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly Vuong Dinh Hue and his activities in Havana.
The Granma daily, the newspaper of the Communist Party of Cuba, highlighted the top Vietnamese legislator’s speech at a special plenary session of the 10th National Assembly of People’s Power of Cuba and a ceremony celebrating the 62nd anniversary of the Giron Victory in Havana on April 19 afternoon (local time). - Truong Thi Mai, Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat, met with Thongsavanh Phomvihane, member of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) Central Committee and head of its Commission for External Relations, in Hanoi on April 20.

- The “fishing ban” imposed by China in the East Sea violates Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) as well as its sovereignty rights and jurisdiction over the waters and exclusive economic zone defined in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, Foreign Ministry's vice spokesperson Doan Khac Viet stated on April 20.
Viet affirmed Vietnam’s consistent stance on the “fishing ban” unilaterally and illegally issued by China in the East Sea from May 1 to August 16, at a regular press conference of the Foreign Ministry in Hanoi. Read full story
