– Party General Secretary and President To Lam and his spouse chaired a ceremony in Hanoi on August 29 to celebrate the 79th anniversary of the National Day of Vietnam (September 2).
Attending the event were former and incumbent Party, State, National Assembly and Government leaders, as well as officials of ministries, agencies, socio-political organisations, and localities in and around Hanoi. International delegates included the head of the diplomatic corps in Hanoi - Palestinian Ambassador Saadi Salama, and foreign ambassadors, charge d'affaires and chief representatives of international organisations in the capital city. - Party General Secretary and State President To Lam on August 29 chaired a meeting of the personnel sub-committee of the 14th National Party Congress and the steering committee for the personnel planning of the 14th Party Central Committee, its Politburo, and its Secretariat for the 2026-2031 tenure.
At the meeting, members of the two agencies discussed and gave opinions on a draft report summarising the 13th Party Central Committee’s personnel affairs, and the personnel directions for the 14th Party Central Committee; as well as on the proposal for the personnel planning of the Politburo and the Secretariat of the 14th Party Central Committee. – The diplomatic sector should detect opportunities and challenges in a timely manner, contributing to the successful implementation of the country’s 100-year strategic goals, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam said at a working session with the Party Civil Affairs Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 29.
Noting that the country has gained great achievements in national construction and defence throughout 79 years of the Vietnamese revolution and 40 years of “Doi Moi” (Renewal), the leader said that never before has the country integrated so deeply and made such positive contributions to the international community as it does today. - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on August 29 held phone talks with his Thai counterpart Paetongtarn Shinawatra after she became the 31st Prime Minister of Thailand.
In the talks, PM Chinh asked PM Paetongtarn to convey the regards and best wishes of Party General Secretary and President To Lam to the King, Queen and Royal Family of Thailand. He congratulated Paetongtarn on being endorsed as the PM by the King of Thailand. Read full story
- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son hosted a reception in Hanoi on August 29 for Lao Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Phoxay Khaykhamphithoune who is in Vietnam to co-chair the 9th political consultation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
Son spoke highly of the deputy ministerial-level political consultation mechanism between the two ministries and urged both sides to increase information and experience exchange, work more closely at global and regional forums, and actively realise high-level agreements between the two countries' leaders and ministries for the 2021-2025 period. - The coast guard forces of Vietnam and China on August 29 conducted their third joint patrol in the northern part of the Gulf of Tonkin this year, covering the waters off Mong Cai City in Vietnam’s northeastern province of Quang Ninh, as well as Dongxing and Fangchenggang cities in China’s Guangxi province.
The joint patrol spanned a distance of 120 nautical miles, from Point 1 to Point 9 along the delimitation line in the Gulf of Tonkin. This area is known for its bustling import-export activities and goods exchanges between the two nations, and is also a hotspot for illegal activities such as smuggling, commercial fraud, illegal border crossings, and unauthorised maritime entry. – The Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission convened its 46th meeting in Hanoi on August 28-29 under the chair of Politburo member and its head Tran Cam Tu.
The commission concluded that the Standing Committee of the provincial Party Committee of the northern province of Bac Giang had violated principles of democratic centralism and working regulations, shown a lack of responsibility, loosened leadership and supervision, resulting in the Party Delegation of the provincial People's Council, the Party Civil Affairs Board of the provincial People's Committee, and many organisations and individuals breaching Party regulations and state laws in several investment projects conducted by Thuan An Group./.
