- The National Assembly Standing Committee wrapped up its 30thmeeting in Hanoi on February 22 after a day of sitting.

In his closing remarks, NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue confirmedthat all five agenda items had been completed, including providing opinions onthe adjustment of the draft revised Law on Archives and the draft law onamendments and supplements to several articles of the Law on Guard Force; andapproving a Resolution on supplementing the number of prosecutors of thePeople's Procuracy. Read full story

- The Ministry of National Defence held a ceremony in Hanoi onFebruary 22 to present the President’s decision to send four military officersto the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping missions in the Central AfricanRepublic, South Sudan and Abyei area.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen.Lieut. Gen Hoang Xuan Chien, who is also at the helm of the ministry’s SteeringCommittee on participation in the UN peacekeeping operations, asked theoutgoing officers to uphold internal solidarity, fully grasp relevant situationand work closely with local forces, thus embodying the positive images of UncleHo’s soldiers. Read full story

- The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) will take measuresto promote economic, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and fiveCentral Asian countries (C5) of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan,Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

According to the ministry, those countries have good traditionalfriendship relations with Vietnam and leaders of the two sides have paid muchattention to promoting their cooperation. - Domestic and international scholars and economists on February22 attended a discussion in Hanoi to review the socio-economic development ofVietnam in the last 30 years and propose measures for the country to respond tonew challenges in the coming time.

- Da Nang city’s Tourism Department, the national flag carrierVietnam Airlines, and the Vietnam Travel and Marketing TransportsJoint Stock Company (Vietravel) have opened booths to promote Vietnamtourism at the 31st South Asian Travel and Tourism Exchange (SATTE 2024) inGreater Noida, India.

This year, the SATTE taking place from February 22-24 bringstogether more than 1,800 exhibitors, over 800 hosted international and domesticbuyers, and agents/operators/professionals from over 120 Indian cities andtowns. It has attracted more than 48,000 visitors. Read full story

On March 14, 1988, engineering soldiers of the Vietnam People’s Navy stood resolutely on Gac Ma with a unwavering commitment to protecting the national flag amid the vast sea. They faced death head-on, yet refused to retreat or surrender, creating an immortal circle of pride in the East Sea. The 64 soldiers, including nine from Da Nang and one from Quang Nam, laid down their lives.

Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh provided further details on the Government’s proposal, which involves transferring about one-third of the responsibilities currently handled by district-lev administrations to provincial authorities, while decentralising the remaining two-thirds to the commune-level administrations.
