Hanoi (VNA) - The following is a list of selected news summaries reported last night by the Vietnam News Agency.

- Leaders of many countries along with ruling parties, communist parties, and partner parties have continued sending letters and messages of condolences to Vietnam on the passing of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong.

In his condolence letter, President of the Philippines Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. praised General Secretary Trong as a comprehensive and visionary leader, a lighthouse kindling Vietnam’s hope, and a great contributor to the country’s economic development and the effective combat against corruption and negative phenomena. He considered the Party leader’s “bamboo diplomacy” approach as an important factor making Vietnam’s external relations balanced and multilateralised. Read full story

- President To Lam on July 24 received President of the National Assembly (NA) of People's Power of Cuba Esteban Lazo Hernandez who is in Vietnam to attend the state funeral of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong.

During the reception, President Lam said Cuban is one of the first countries to inform Vietnam about the attendance at the funeral, noting the Cuban delegation’s presence is a vivid manifestation of the comradeship, brotherhood, and special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba, as well as the precious sentiments of the Cuban leaders and people towards Party General Secretary Trong. Expressing deep sorrow when hearing the passing of the Party General Secretary, US Senator Patrick Joseph Leahy told the Vietnam News Agency that he had once read extensively about the statesman and longed to meet him. This wish was fulfilled with their first meeting in Hanoi, followed by another in Washington DC. - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong was a special, rare politician and a profound theorist with sharp mind, Chairman of the Friendship Group with Vietnam Prof. Dr. Günter Giesenfeld told the Vietnam News Agency (VNA)'s resident correspondent in Berlin.

Giesenfeld and his wife translated the Vietnamese Party chief’s article on several theoretical and practical issues on socialism and the path towards socialism in Vietnam into German, helping people there have a better understanding about the socialism as well as the path that Vietnam has chosen. According to historical records, the area once served as an operational base for units of Regiments 609, 66, 24 and 320, as well as staff and logistics agencies of the Central Highlands front (B3) during the 1966–1969 period. Between 2020 and 2025, the corps had already recovered remains from 46 martyrs in the Chu Pa mountain area.
