- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on May 30 visited educational institutions for disadvantaged children in Hanoi on the occasion of International Children’s Day (June 1) and Action Month for Children.

At the SOS Hermann Gmeiner School, established in 1994 with its construction funded by the SOS Children’s Village, Chinh presented gifts to the school and its outstanding students. Read full story

- A Child Rights and Business Forum was organised in Hanoi on May 30 by UNICEF Vietnam and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), emphasising the need for responsible business practices that respect child rights and prevent adverse human rights impacts. Read full story

- The national steering committee for green growth should work out specific solutions to realise green growth targets based on the country’s socio-economic conditions, Deputy Prime Minister and head of the committee Tran Hong Ha said at the committee’s first meeting on May 30.

The Deputy PM required the committee to update green growth-related statistics and targets since the COP26, and study experiences of countries in implementing green growth strategies with a view to draw out lessons for Vietnam. Read full story

- Domestic and foreign researchers and experts in urban architecture, planning, and development sought ways to harmoniously integrate urban architecture and the natural environment at an international conference in Ho Chi Minh City on May 29-30.

- Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan hosted a reception for a delegation of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodian Motherland in Hanoi on May 30.

Xuan congratulated Cambodia on its successful chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in 2022, and its successful organisation of the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32) in May. Read full story

- An international workshop held in Hanoi on May 30 stressed the crucial role of female police officers in UN peacekeeping operations as well as the importance of promoting diversity in conflict settlement and post-conflict peace building.

The event was organised by the People’s Security Academy and the UN Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) with support from the Canadian Government. It was part of a regional project named “Empowering Women for Sustainable Peace: Preventing Violence and Promoting Social Cohesion in ASEAN” funded by the Canadian and Republic of Korean governments. - The Indian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City will hold a range of cultural exchange, and trade, investment and tourism promotion programmes in 2023, aiming to foster the ties between India and Vietnam, said Indian Consul General Madan Mohan Sethi at a press briefing in the city on May 30.

The diplomat said that last year, the two sides jointly organised many activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the two countries. To further promote the India-Vietnam ties in general and the relations between India and southern localities of Vietnam in particular, the Indian Consulate General in HCM City has planned many other activities to strengthen connections between the two communities, he said. - Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Vo Van Hoan received the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) delegation led by FHKI Chairman Sunny Chai on May 30.

- More than 30 Vietnamese businesses are showcasing their products at a food exhibition in  the Republic of Korea (RoK), which opened on May 30.

As the largest food exhibition in the East Asian nation, Seoul Food 2023 gathers 1,500 companies from 30 countries with up to 2,500 booths. The four-day event offers an opportunity for the food and beverage industry of the RoK and other participating countries to seek cooperation opportunities.Read full story

- The Saigon Hi-Tech Park (SHTP) in Ho Chi Minh City and Cadence Design Systems, a multinational computational software company of the US, on May 30 signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in developing electronic design manpower and promoting the semiconductor industry in Vietnam.

Under this partnership, Cadence, a world leading company in electronic design, can provide integrated circuit (IC) design software tools and related training programmes for universities in HCM City via its academic network. Read full story

- To prepare for the organisation of the 2024 Asian futsal qualifiers, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has conducted seed grouping as well as announced the draw rules for the 31 participating teams, including Vietnam.

The seeding is based on the performance of the teams at the 2022 Asian futsal tournament. Teams not participating in this tournament are ranked in the lowest group. Read full story./.
