- Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh attended the 27th ASEAN - China Summit and the 25th ASEAN - Republic of Korea Summit on October 10 in Vientiane, Laos, during which he called for closer connections between the bloc and its partners for peace, security, and sustainable development.

Speaking at the 27th ASEAN - China Summit, the Vietnamese leader welcomed the practical, effective and comprehensive development of ASEAN-China relations, which brings practical benefits to all parties. He stressed that the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and China are increasingly affirming their roles as important drivers and dynamic centres for growth and development in the region and the world. - Vietnam always treasures cooperative ties with the European Union (EU) and its member states, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh told President of the European Council (EC) Charles Michel at their meeting on October 10 on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in Vientiane, Laos.

Both leaders expressed their satisfaction with the robust, intensive and extensive development of the relationship between Vietnam and the EU, particularly in economy, trade, and investment cooperation since the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) came into effect in 2020. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with his Malaysian counterpart Anwar Ibrahim in Vientiane on October 10, on the occasion of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related summits.

Expressing his gratitude to Malaysia for its support for Vietnam’s recovery from the recent Typhoon Yagi via the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance, PM Chinh said such assistance reflects the bloc’s spirit of solidarity and resilience in the face of common challenges. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to continue supporting Vietnam in mobilising resources to implement large-scaled projects such as the Lao Cai - Hanoi - Hai Phong and Lang Son - Hanoi standard-gauge railway ones during a reception for AIIB President Jin Liqun in Vientiane on October 10.

At the event, held on the occasion of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and related meetings, PM Chinh spoke highly of the AIIB's contributions to Vietnam's development in recent times, stating that Vietnam will continue to attach importance to and actively and responsibly participate in the bank's cooperation initiatives. - Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has called for the World Bank (WB)'s continued support and concessional loans targeting key infrastructure projects, including high-speed and urban rail systems, major seaports and airports.

At a meeting with WB Vice President for East Asia and Pacific Manuela Ferro on the sidelines of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in Vientiane on October 10, PM Chinh lauded the WB’s strategic vision to create a world free from poverty on a livable planet, which focuses on sustainable development and green transition. - The Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security (MPS) supports and commits to cooperating with the UK side to fight human trafficking and illegal migration, Minister of Public Security Sen. Lieut. Gen. Luong Tam Quang told Secretary of State for the Home Department Yvette Cooper in their phone talks on October 10.

Quang added that the MPS is ready to share experiences with the UK law enforcement agencies in the fight against organised crimes. Read full story

- The official visit to Vietnam by Chinese Premier Li Qiang from October 12 to 14 is significant to further enhance the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries and promote the building of a Vietnam-China community with a shared future that carries strategic significance in the direction of the “six major goals”, Vietnamese Ambassador to China Pham Sao Mai has said.

In an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency, Mai stated that this will be the first visit to Vietnam by a Chinese Premier in 11 years and also the first by Li as the Chinese Premier, demonstrating the respect of the Chinese Party and State and Li hisself for the relations with Vietnam. - Fifteen Vietnamese banks have been named among the world’s top 500 banking brands recently announced by the global leading brand valuation consultancy Brand Finance, according to the Vietnam Banks Association.

Of those, nine climbed to a higher placing, three banks were named for the first time, while three saw slight drops in the rankings. Read full story

- Auto sales by members of the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (VAMA) reached 36,585 units in September, a 45% increase over the previous month, following the implementation of a 50% reduction in registration fees for domestically manufactured and assembled vehicles.

The policy, detailed in the Government’s Decree 109/2024/ND-CP issued on August 29, took effect on September 1 and will remain in place for three months to incentivise consumers to choose locally assembled vehicles. Read full story

- A delegation from the Vietnam - France Friendship and Cooperation Association (AACVF) led by Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyen Thi Kim Tien, former Health Minister of Vietnam and Honorary President of the AACVF, paid a working visit to France from October 6 - 10 to seek stronger cooperation between the two countries in the fields of health care and pharmaceuticals.
