- General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee and State President To Lam and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam landed at Dublin Airport at 8:30 pm on October 1 (local time), beginning a state visit to Ireland at the invitation of Irish President Michael D. Higgins.
The Vietnamese delegation was welcomed at the airport by Irish Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture Food & the Marine Pippa Hackett, Chief of Protocol at the Department of Foreign Affairs Eamonn McKee, Mayor of Fingal Dublin Brian McDonagh, Ambassador to Vietnam Deirdre Ní Fhallúin, Vietnamese Ambassador to Ireland Do Minh Hung and his spouse, along with several staff members from the Vietnamese Embassy. - General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and State President To Lam and his entourage left Ulaanbaatar on October 1, concluding their two-day state visit to Mongolia and heading to Ireland for a state visit at the invitation of Irish President Michael D. Higgins.
During his stay in Mongolia, President Lam held talks with President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, met with Chairman of the Parliament Dashzegviin Amarbayasgalan and Prime Minister Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene, and attended the opening of the Vietnam Cultural Day 2024. Read full story

- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh hosted a reception in Hanoi on October 1 for newly-appointed Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam He Wei, assuring him that Vietnam consistently considers the development of relations with China an objective requirement, a strategic choice, and a top priority in its overall foreign policy.
PM Chinh thanked China for its various forms of support for Vietnam to overcome the consequences of typhoon Yagi and subsequent floods, and appreciated China's sharing of hydrological information and cooperation in regulating water release from hydropower dams to minimise flood damage. - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on October 1 called for the launch of a concentrated drive lasting 450 days and nights, pooling public strength to eradicate temporary and dilapidated housing nationwide by the end of 2025.
Chairing a meeting in Hanoi between permanent Government members and the Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF), ministries and agencies, PM Chinh outlined a plan to eliminate over 153,000 sub-standard homes for poor and near-poor households, saying that a campaign is underway in celebration of several national milestones next year, including the 14th National Party Congress, the 80th anniversary of National Day, and the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification. - The central city of Da Nang deems it incredibly important to develop cooperative relationships with New Zealand in various fields, Chairman of municipal People’s Committee Le Trung Chinh said on October 1.
Speaking at a reception for New Zealand Ambassador Caroline Beresford, Chinh expressed his delight at the sound development of the relationship between Vietnam and New Zealand, especially after the two countries upgraded their relationship to a Strategic Partnership in July 2020. He went on to say that the year 2025 is important as the two countries will celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 5th anniversary of the Strategic Partnership.
