- Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on October 4 affirmed that the outcomes of cooperation between Hanoi and Vientiane vividly demonstrated the traditional, special friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
At a reception for Vientiane's Mayor Atsaphangthong Siphandone, who is in Hanoi on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of Hanoi's Liberation Day (October 10, 1954-2023), the PM lauded significant contributions by Vientiane to achievements Laos has recorded over the past nearly four decades of reform. - Chairman of the National Assembly’s Committee for External Relations Vu Hai Ha hosted a reception for Secretary of State for Scotland of the UK Alister Jack in Hanoi on October 4, where he affirmed that Vietnam-UK ties are thriving, especially since the upgrade of ties to a strategic partnership and the signing of the UK-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (UKVFTA).
Congratulating the UK on completing negotiations to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), Ha expressed his belief that the move will serve as a lever for trade growth between the two countries and bring practical benefits to their citizens in the near future. - President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa has noted with pleasure developments of the Vietnam-South Africa relationship, which is entering a new period as the two countries are celebrating the 30th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties (1993-2023).
At a reception for Vietnamese Ambassador Hoang Sy Cuong, who came to present President Vo Van Thuong’s credentials, in Pretoria on October 3, Ramaphosa asked the diplomat to convey his regards to President Thuong and other leaders of Vietnam. Read full story
- Sailing Ship 286-Le Quy Don of the Vietnam Naval Academy left the Nha Trang military port in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa on October 4, beginning its journey to Singapore for a friendly visit marking the 50th anniversary of the countries’ diplomatic relations (1973-2023) and 10th anniversary of their strategic partnership (2013-2023).
The journey itself is designated as a training session for trainees to practice sea navigation during long-distance voyage, use weapons and equipment, and deal with real-life situations, among other activities. Read full story

- Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang on October 4 signed a PM dispatch on implementing urgent and essential tasks and measures to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing and prepare for the fourth inspection trip by the European Commission (EC) team.
