Speaker of House of Representatives of Myanmar U Win Myint (Source: EPA) Hanoi (VNA) – Speaker of the House of Representatives (Pyithu Hluttaw) of Myanmar U Win Myint stepped down after two years holding the position, announced Vice Speaker T Khun Myat in a session on March 21.
However, Khun Myat did not disclose the reason for the resignation.
U Win Myint was elected as the Speaker of the House of Representatives in February 2016.
Earlier the same day, Myanmar President U Htin Kyaw also resigned as he wanted to “take a rest”.
According to a notice posted by the President’s Office on Facebook, a replacement would be in place within seven working days. The parliament is in session this week, and a new president could be voted into place by the end of the week.
Vice President U Myint Swe will serve as acting president until the parliament chooses a replacement, said Chief of the President’s Office U Zaw Htay.
Htin Kyaw was elected as President of Myanmar on March 15, 2016. He has been the first civilian President of Myanmar since 1960.-VNA
