Myanmar President U Thein Sein invited political and military leaders to an unprecedented meeting in capital Nay Pyidaw on October 31, a year ahead of the 2015 general election.

The meeting is scheduled to focus its discussion on democracy reforms, peace process and national reconciliation, with leaders of the ruling and opposition parties U Htay Oo and Aung San Suu Kyi in attendance.

The event came at an important time when the Myanmar government is trying to strike a ceasefire with rebel groups before the next year’s election – a test crucial to Thein Sein’s democracy reform.-VNA
