Myanmar is determined to strengthen economic partnership with Thailand as it targets increasing trade in the border areas.

After attending a welcome dinner party hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Speaker of the Myanmar Parliament U Shwe Mann met with Prime Minister and Defence Minister Yingluck Shinawatra.

During their meeting, the Speaker expressed his desire to revise border trade regulations of both countries in order to facilitate traders in terms of business deals and product delivery.

He said the move is in accordance with Thailand’s intention to increase border trade value with Laos, Cambodia, Malaysia, and his country. If things are done as planned, Thailand will be able to increase trade value along the Thai-Myanmar border areas by 20 percent, or around 1 trillion THB per year.

The Speaker also expressed his gratitude to the Thai Premier over the migrant worker issue, thanking Thailand for extending registration period for migrants for one more year, adding that all Burmese workers in Thailand are happy with the 300-THB minimum wage policy.

Before ending the discussion, he praised Thailand for its stability, prosperity, and most importantly democracy.-VNA
