Hanoi (VNA) – Chairwoman of the Vietnam National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan hailed the on-going official friendly visit to Vietnam of General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of Laos Bounnhang Vorachith as an important political event in bilateral ties.

At a meeting with the Lao Party and State leader in Hanoi on December 19, Ngan said the two sides have successfully organized activities of the 2017 Vietnam-Laos, Laos-Vietnam friendship year. She noted that the diverse and practical activities have exerted widespread influence on people of the two countries, especially youths, helping them understand more about Vietnam-Laos special combat alliance and the whole-hearted mutual support of the two Parties, States and peoples during the past struggles for national liberation and reunification as well as the present cause of national construction, protection and development.

Bounnhang Vorachith lauded the effective coordination between the Vietnamese and Lao legislative bodies over the past time, affirming their constructive and tangible contributions to the fruitful relationship between the two countries.

Host and guest agreed on the need for the two National Assemblies to enhance the sharing of information and experience, and their cooperation in supervising the implementation of Vietnam-Laos Joint Statements, agreements reached by leaders and Governments of the two countries, and other cooperation programmes.

They shared the view that the two legislative bodies should push for necessary changes and supplements to mechanisms, policies and laws in order to step up collaboration in trade and investment between Vietnam and Laos.

They also emphasized that the two sides should closely coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums, as well as in sub-region cooperation mechanisms.-VNA
