Hanoi (VNA) – The National Assembly continued the agenda of its ongoing sixth session on November 19 under the chair of Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

In the morning, lawmakers debated a draft revision of the Law on the Execution of Criminal Judgments.

The majority agreed on the necessity to promulgate the law to continue institutionalising the Party’s resolutions on judicial reform, realising the 2013 constitution on human rights and citizens’ basic rights and obligations, addressing weaknesses of the existing law, and ensuring a consensus with other laws and international conventions to which Vietnam is a member.

Deputies focused discussion on the law’s adjustment scale, the timeframe of adopting the law, the organisation of production zones and vocational training outside prisons, the rights and obligations of prisoners, the enforcement of sanctions on commercial legal entities, and included the conditional release of convicts before the ending of prison terms, among others.

In the afternoon, the legislature approved five laws, including the revised Law on Amnesty, the Law on Crop Production, the Law on Animal Husbandry, the Law on the Vietnam Coast Guard, and the Law on amendments and supplements to a number of articles of the Law on Higher Education, all with large majority yes votes. –VNA
