NA Standing Committee convenes seventh session

The National Assembly’s Standing Committee met for its seventh session in Hanoi on April 10 under the chair of National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung.

On addressing the opening session, ChairmanHung noted that apart from its initial achievements, the country isfacing major difficulties that hamper economic development and socialwelfare-related work.

He pointed out social issues that neededto be dealt with such as traffic accidents and congestion, domesticviolence, food safety, diseases, education and health care.

The Chairman asked the participants to refer those issues to the National Assembly for discussion.

During the 10 days, the delegates will discuss 13 draft laws,including the Law on Administrative Sanctions; the Law on Vietnam’sSeas; the Law on National Reserves; the Law on Pricing; the revised Lawon Water Resources; the revised Law on Publishing; the Law on amendmentsand supplements to articles of the Law on Lawyers; the Law onElectricity; the Law on Legal Education and Dissemination; the Law onJudicial Assessments; the Law on Libraries and the Law on Advertising.

They will then work out a legislative programme for the NationAssembly in 2013. They will also review the progress of the 2011 planfor socio-economic development and put forward proposals for thecountry’s economic restructuring.-VNA

NA leader hosts Belgian King in Hanoi

To further strengthen Vietnam-Belgium relations, especially parliamentary cooperation, both sides agreed to enhance delegation exchanges at all levels, particularly between parliamentary committees and friendship groups. They also pledged to share legislative and supervisory experience, coordinate positions in international organisations, support each other’s candidacies for UN bodies, and effectively implement the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA).

President Cuong warmly welcomed King Philippe and a high-ranking delegation of the Kingdom of Belgium on their first state visit to Vietnam since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1973, affirming that the trip is an important historical milestone, opening up a new page for the friendly relations between the two countries.
