Vietnam, as a responsible member of the international community, is determined to implement Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and needs the assistance from international community, especially UN agencies, in implementing its action programmes, National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan has affirmed.

At a reception in Hanoi on Sept. 12, Ngan also spoke highly of contributions by Setsuko Yamazuki as Country Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) over the recent past, and congratulated Louise Chamberlain on her appointment as the new UNDP Country Director in Vietnam .

She expressed her belief that Louise Chamberlain will make practical contributions to the relationship between UN and Vietnam .

Ngan thanked the UNDP for its assistance to Vietnam in strengthening the country’s legal frameworks, administrative reform, managerial decentralisation and public financial management.

For her part, Louise Chamberlain affirmed that the UNDP will further assist Vietnam in hunger eradication and poverty reduction, reducing the impact of disasters, climate change and the world’s economy.-VNA
