National Assembly speaker of RoK vows closer ties with Vietnam

Newly-elected Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (RoK) Chung Ui-hwa has vowed to do more for the RoK-Vietnam ties which he described has grown beyond their strategic partnership to as close as “family” bonds, noting that over 60,000 Vietnamese brides have become part of Korean families.

Receiving Vietnamese Ambassador Pham Huu Chi in Seoul on July 18, Chung Ui-hwa suggested the Vietnamese embassy inform the RoK side about the thoughts and wishes of the Vietnamese community, especially those of expatriate brides, so that the RoK National Assembly can help design policies giving effective support to them.

He spoke highly of the growing cooperation between the legislative bodies and governments of the two countries recently, adding that they should continue to work together for peace, stability and development in the region.

Chung said he backs the settlement of disputes and differences via peaceful dialogue in line with international law and within the framework of international mechanisms, including the United Nations.

The Vietnamese Ambassador briefed the RoK legislative leader on Vietnam’s situation and expressed hope that the RoK National Assembly speaker will continue to foster bilateral coordination in the coming time.-VNA
