The Standing Committee of the National Assembly convened a conference gathering its key members in Hanoi on August 24 in a bid to discuss draft laws that will be submitted during the NA’s upcoming tenth sitting.

In the morning, draft amendments to the civil law were at the centre of debate with seven major contents including responsibilities of relevant agencies in protecting civil rights, subjects of legal relations and contract amendments following changing basic conditions.

In the afternoon, participants frankly commented on measures to improve the question-and-answer sessions as part of the draft amendments to the law on supervision of the NA and the People’s Councils.

There were opinions that the sessions’ topics should not be recommended by the standing committees of the NA and the People’s Councils to avoid limiting questioned issues.

Charing the debate, NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung highlighted the legal value of supervision results, requesting a resolution from each supervision case while sending reports to agencies in charge of supervised units.

The reports must clarify responsibilities, particularly of leading individuals, and limit duration to handle the units’ problems, he noted.

The conference will continue on August 25 to discuss the draft revised Code of Criminal Procedure.-VNA
