Nghe An (VNA) – Leaders of Vietnam's Nghe An province and Laos’s Bolikhamxay province on February 4 held talks and signed a 2026–2028 cooperation agreement, pledging to deepen bilateral ties in eight key areas.
Chairman of the Nghe An provincial People’s Committee Vo Trong Hai said the two sides will continue to strengthen political trust, maintain regular delegation exchanges, and share experience in Party building, governance and political system building. They will also work closely on defence, security, and border management to ensure a peaceful, stable, cooperative and development-oriented borderline, creating favourable conditions for socio-economic growth.
Regarding border gates and transport connectivity, the two provinces agreed to remove key bottlenecks to unlock new growth drivers. Building on positive results at Thanh Thuy – Nam On auxiliary border gate since 2024, they will gradually expand the movement of people and road vehicles, as well as trade and exchanges through Cao Veu – Thoong Phi La and Tam Hop – Thoong My Xay auxiliary gate pairs, in line with the laws of both countries.
Governor of Bolikhamxay Khamveng Phannavong suggested that departments and localities of both sides should take the initiative to translate the newly signed commitments into concrete action plans.
The 2026–2028 agreement covers eight cooperation pillars: political and diplomatic relations; economic cooperation; border gate and transport infrastructure development; culture and social affairs; education, training and human resource development; defence, security and border protection; management of free migration and unregistered marriages; and twinning of border localities./.
