Hanoi (VNA) - The Central Public Security Party Committee and the Ministry of Public Security held a gathering of senior public security officers of different periods in Hanoi on February 4 on the occasion of the Lunar New Year (Tet) of the Horse, with the presence of Party General Secretary To Lam.

The event was chaired by Minister of Public Security General Luong Tam Quang. It also saw the attendance of incumbent and former members of the Party Central Committee, incumbent and former leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, spouses of deceased former leaders of the ministry, veteran revolutionaries, pre-uprising officials, Heroes of the People’s Armed Forces, Heroes of Labour, and general-ranking officers of the People’s Public Security Force.

Speaking at the gathering, General Secretary Lam briefed participants on the outcomes of the 14th National Party Congress, stressing that the implementation of the congress’s resolution is being carried out in a prompt and resolute manner.

He said the new tenure will focus on three strategic objectives - maintaining stability and safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity; promoting rapid and sustainable socio-economic development to achieve the centenary goals marking 100 years of the Party’s leadership in 2030 and 100 years since the founding of the country in 2045; and improving people’s living standards towards prosperity and happiness.

Acknowledging and commending the important contributions of the People’s Public Security Force in recent years, the Party leader noted that the protection of national security and the maintenance of social order and safety have seen major breakthroughs, helping keep Vietnam among the world’s safest and most secure countries. This has enhanced the country’s attractiveness to international investors and tourists, he stressed.

He highlighted the force’s pioneering role in digital transformation, particularly in implementing Project 06 and mastering national data systems to serve social governance and economic development, as well as its substantial progress in building a truly clean, strong, regular, elite and modern force in line with the Politburo’s Resolution No. 12, affirming its role as a “sharp sword” and a “steel shield” in protecting the Party, the people and the socialist regime.

The Central Public Security Party Committee and the entire force, he said, have taken the lead in implementing the Politburo’s Resolution No. 18 and rolling out the two-tier local public security model. Alongside the military and diplomatic sectors, the public security force has also effectively carried out external affairs and international integration, contributing positively to regional and global security and helping reduce the risks of hotspots and conflicts, he stated.

On behalf of Party and State leaders, the General Secretary expressed deep appreciation and gratitude to generations of public security leaders and officers for their significant contributions, and voiced his hope that they will continue, with enthusiasm and responsibility, to contribute to the Party’s and people’s revolutionary cause in the new era.

He stressed that, to successfully implement the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, the People’s Public Security Force must take the lead in fully implementing and spreading the spirit of the congress, ensuring swift, thorough and results-based execution of the Party’s and State’s directions.

The Party chief called on the force to proactively grasp developments early, from afar and at the grassroots level, effectively combine traditional and non-traditional security measures, sustainably reduce crimes, expand international cooperation, and accelerate the building of a regular, elite and modern force.

To mobilise the strength of former public security officers in national construction and defence, the Party leader expressed his hope that senior public security officers of different periods will continue to serve as exemplary role models in their communities, contributing to strengthening the great national unity bloc and striving to build a peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, civilised and happy socialist Vietnam by 2045.

On the occasion of Tet, General Secretary Lam extended his best wishes for good health, happiness, peace and prosperity to veteran revolutionaries, incumbent and former leaders of the Ministry of Public Security and their families./.
