Hanoi (VNA) – The following is a brief review of the day’s events as reported by the Vietnam News Agency.

– Party General Secretary To Lam on February 4 underscored the pivotal role of the great national solidarity as the decisive source of strength to propel Vietnam toward fast and sustainable development in the new era.

The Party chief made the statement while jointly chairing a meeting between the Party Central Committee’s Politburo and Secretariat and former members of the Party Central Committee on the occasion of the 96th founding anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930–2026), the successful 14th National Party Congress, and the Lunar New Year. – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on February 4 presided over the Government’s meeting for January, marking the first cabinet session of 2026 – the first year of implementing the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress for the 2026–2030 term.

He instructed ministries, sectors and localities to develop flexible policy plans to respond promptly to external economic shocks, thereby maintaining macroeconomic stability, controlling inflation and preserving major economic balances. Accelerating public investment disbursement and fast-tracking key national infrastructure projects from the early days of 2026 were also highlighted as an urgent task. Read full story

– Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh had a meeting on February 3 with Governor of the National Bank of Kazakhstan (NBK) Timur Suleimenov to discuss ways to enhance financial and monetary cooperation, as part of the Vietnamese Government delegation's working visit to Kazakhstan from February 1 to 3.

The NBK Governor perceived that Vietnam has favourable conditions to develop an international financial centre, given its strong economic growth momentum and extensive ties with international financial institutions. Read full story

– Vietnamese Acting Minister of Industry and Trade Le Manh Hung held a discussion with a group of US enterprises in the energy, industrial, and aviation sectors under the US – ASEAN Business Council (USABC) in Washington D.C. on February 2, the Ministry of Industry and Trade reported on February 4.

The event took place on the sidelines of the sixth round of negotiations on the Vietnam – US Agreement on Reciprocal, Fair, and Balanced Trade, reflecting Vietnam’s determination to strengthen and elevate bilateral economic and trade ties in a stable, substantive, and sustainable manner. – Vietnam has taken another step to deepen capital market reforms by allowing foreign investors to trade securities through global brokerage institutions and permitting foreign fund management companies to open two trading accounts, according to the Ministry of Finance’s newly-issued Circular No. 08/2026.

Specifically, the circular amends a number of regulations with the aim of supporting Vietnam’s upgrade to the emerging market status. The move is intended to facilitate foreign investor participation, ensure Vietnamese equities are included in FTSE Russell’s emerging market index as scheduled by September, and increase the proportion of Vietnamese stocks in FTSE’s index basket. – Gender equality has always been regarded by the Party and State of Vietnam as a consistent objective throughout the country’s development process, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha stated at the dialogue session on the country’s ninth national report on the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), held in Geneva on February 3.

She affirmed that Vietnam has put in place a comprehensive and coherent policy framework to encourage and create the most favourable conditions for women to fully exercise equal rights in political, economic, cultural and social spheres. Read full story./.

According to Professor Cui, the visit underscores the guiding role of high-level diplomacy in shaping the bilateral relations. The decision by Vietnam’s top leader to choose China for his first overseas trip shortly after assuming the presidency highlights the strategic significance of the bilateral ties and reaffirms the long-standing friendship often described as “both comrades and brothers.”

Vietnam–China: New momentum for trade growth

In 2025, China remained Vietnam’s largest trading partner. Conversely, Vietnam was China’s biggest trading partner in ASEAN and ranked fourth globally, with two-way trade reaching 256.4 billion USD, up 24.8% year-on-year. In the first two months of 2026 alone, trade turnover hit 66.7 billion USD, an increase of 30.2%.

Slovak PM concludes official visit to Vietnam

The visit by Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico on April 12-14 was described as a vivid demonstration of Slovakia’s goodwill and high regard for the traditional friendship between the two countries, marking a significant milestone that opens a new phase of more stable and substantive development in bilateral ties.
