No Vietnamese affected in recent France protests

No Vietnamese have been reported as affected in the latest protests in France, said spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Le Thi Thu Hang on December 6.

Hanoi (VNA) – No Vietnamese have been reported as affected in the latest protestsin France, said spokesperson ofthe Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Le Thi Thu Hang on December 6.

She made the statement at the ministry’sregular press conference in Hanoi, in response to reporters’ queries regardingthe conditions of Vietnamese people living in France in the face of protests inthe European country.

Upon the occurrence of the protests, theEmbassy of Vietnam in France has kept a close watch on the situation andassigned personnel to watch a hotline to promptly assist Vietnamese citizens incase of difficulties, she said.

The French Ministry of Interior announced thatto date, no foreigners have been affected in the incidents, she added.

Hang noted that the MoFA has instructed theVietnamese Embassy in France to continue to closely follow the situation andcontact local authorised agencies to obtain information and be ready to conductcitizen protection if necessary, as well as apply appropriate measures to warnVietnamese citizens not to travel to locations of the protests.

Both sides agreed that there is ample room for cooperation, particularly in trade, investment and services. They pledged to step up joint work in the economic, trade, investment, agriculture, port logistics, finance, banking, tourism and transport sectors, as well as other areas of mutual strength. They also plan to continue negotiating agreements on investment protection, aviation and other areas to create a more favourable framework for expanding cooperation.

The documents include an agreement on maritime transport cooperation between the Governments of Vietnam and Panama, an agreement on cooperation in combating transnational crime, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on agricultural cooperation, and an MoU on tourism cooperation between the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism and the Panama Tourism Authority.
