Around 2,300 rural labourers have been sent to work abroad after over one year of implementing the Prime Minister’s decision on boosting labour exports in poor districts, according to the Overseas Labour Management Department (OLMD).

Vietnam’s main overseas markets included Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Libya, Saudi Arabia, Macau and Japan.

More than 6,200 labourers have registered to work overseas so far, of whom 6,000 passed short-list round.

Labour export businesses have coordinated with localities to provide vocational, language and necessary knowledge training for 4,500 workers.

The government’s labour export programme has been carried out in 52 districts of 18 provinces, including Bac Giang, Yen Bai, Dien Bien, Bac Can, Lao Cai, Son La, Ha Giang, Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Ninh Thuan, Kon Tum and Lam Dong.

The OLMD has disbursed some 5.5 billion VND (290,000 USD) for training and fee support for labourers in poor districts.

At present, the department is coordinating with businesses to carry out the programme in the remaining 10 districts./.
