Party elite works with provincial Party Committees

Politburo members have held separate working sessions in Hanoi with the Party Committees of Gia Lai, Dak Nong, Phu Yen, Quang Nam, Kon Tum and Quang Ngai provinces to examine their preparations for provincial Party congresses.

These Politburo members includepermanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Truong TanSang, Minister of Public Security Le Hong Anh and Secretary of theHanoi Party Committee Pham Quang Nghi.

Having heardthe provincial leaders’ reports on their preparations for Partycongresses, including draft political reports, operational reviews ofthe 2006-2010 term, personnel plans and congress resolutions, Sangbasically agreed on the presented contents.

Sangpraised the achievements the provincial Party Committees have reapedduring the 2006-2010 term, citing the gross domestic product (GDP)growth rates of 13.6 percent of Gia Lai; 15.1 percent of Dak Nong; 12.3percent of Phu Yen; 12.8 percent of Quang Nam ; 14.5 percent of KonTum; and 18.5 percent of Quang Ngai.

The provinceshave made progress in cultural and social affairs, improving the qualityof human resources, reducing the number of poor households, mobilisinginvestment sources, ensuring political stability and security, andpromoting foreign affairs, he said.

However, theParty official pointed out shortcomings facing the provinces such assmall-scale economy, poor living conditions of people and low taxcollection, despite their advantages in terms of location, naturalresources, land, tourism and sea-borne economy.

Sangasked the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai to pour investmentinto developing traffic systems, create an open investment environmentand facilitate businesses’ efforts to expand production, along withspeeding up the building of Pleiku, An Khe, Ayun Pa and Chu Seeconomic zones.

For the Central Highlands provinceof Dak Nong , Sang suggested it further foster the development ofthe supporting industry as well as the forestry and mining sectorscombined with the protection of the environment and protective forests.Dak Nong should also focus on developing human resources and vocationaltraining to meet the requirements in the new period, he said.

Working with Phu Yen authorities, Sang said the province needs to stepup the application of scientific and technological advances toproduction and reduce the export of raw natural resources.

Phu Yen must take solutions to scale up industries, enhancecompetitiveness, promote marine tourism and make the best of its coastallocation in a bid to reach the socio-economic targets in the nexttenure, he added.

The Party official requested thecentral province of Quang Nam to allocate more investment to reducethe number of poor households and support the sustainable development inits eight mountainous districts.

He also urgedQuang Nam to effectively perform the Party and State policies onagriculture, farmers and rural areas, and take measures to correctshortcomings related to the planning work.

For theCentral Highlands province of Kon Tum , Sang emphasised the need tosave natural resources and speed up poverty reduction. The provincemust uphold the strength of national solidarity, enhance the leadershipand combat capacity of the Party Committees and improve the managementefficiency of the administrations at all levels, he added.

During the working session with the central province of Quang Ngai, Sang proposed the province pay due attention to management ofnatural resources and the environment.

In additionto accomplishing its socio-economic growth targets, Quang Ngai needs tomake greater efforts in response to climate change, the Party officialstressed.

While agreeing on most of the personnelplans, Sang asked the provinces to accelerate the training of female,young and ethnic minority officials./.
