Vietnam treasures the enhancing cooperation with the Republic of Korea’s Government, National Assembly and people.

Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong made the statement while receiving Kang Chang-hee, Speaker of the RoK National Assembly, in Hanoi on January 14.

Trong proposed that the two sides expand cooperation in building mechanisms, infrastructure and human resources development.

Kang vowed to do his best to develop the friendship and cooperation between the two legislatures and people. He said he believes the RoK–Vietnam strategic cooperative partnership will grow to a new level in the time to come.

Welcoming Kang on the same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung stressed Vietnam’s policy to deepen Vietnam–RoK cooperation for the common development of the two countries, and for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

Dung said he hopes the RoK’s legislative body will support the two countries’ cooperation in politics, diplomacy and people-to-people exchanges, as well as the two Governments’ links in economics, trade, investment, tourism and labour, and promote the bilateral free trade agreement negotiations.

The Government leader said he hopes the RoK will maintain its provision of official development assistance for Vietnam , as well as support peace, stability and the settlement of disputes in the East Sea by peaceful means in line with international law.

Kang said promoting cooperation with Vietnam is important to his country, especially in economics, trade, investment, education and training.

He said he will discuss Dung’s cooperation recommendations with his country’s relevant agencies. He also suggested the two countries intensify cooperation in energy, infrastructure, science and technology, and aviation.-VNA
