Party leader pays New Year visit to army

Party General Secretary and Secretary of the Army Party Central Committee paid a best-wishes visit to the Ministry of Defence on the lunar New Year.
Nong Duc Manh, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Secretary of the Army Party Central Committee, on February 11 paid a best-wishes visit to the Ministry of Defence on the lunar New Year.

The Party leader placed emphasis on unity as a decisive factor to increase the army’s power and as a solid foundation for the army.

“Efforts should be made to strengthen solidarity among ethnic groups and speed up socio-economic development in remote mountainous areas and former revolutionary bases for a strong national unity,” Manh said.

He called on the entire army to stay alert to safeguard the national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and defend the Party and the socialist regime.

“Initiatives should be undertaken to foil all sabotage plots and attempts by hostile forces, contributing to defending political stability and national security, especially at major celebrations and big events,” the Party leader concluded.

Vietnam ’s traditional New Year festival, the biggest holiday of the year, begins on February 13 and lasts until February 21./.
