Party Secretary General Nong Duc Manh asked authorities in the central province of Binh Dinh to ensure food, drink and medicine for flood-stuck locals while visiting the province on Nov. 5.

The Party, State and local authorities will provide assistance to help the victims resume their normal lives soon, he pledged.

The Party leader extended his sympathy to bereaved families and those who had seriously suffered from the destruction of typhoon Mirinae which has recently wreaked havoc in the central region.

He said he believed that local people would recover from the storm damage thanks to assistance from the whole nation.

The Party chief spoke highly of efforts made by the provincial Party committee and local authorities in rescuing flood victims, asking them to speedily recover production, prepare well for the winter-spring crop and ensure that children return to school as soon as possible.

He also commended the bravery and sacrifice of the police, army and militia forces while they evacuated people in danger to safe places.

Party General Secretary Manh paid homage to Tran Van Minh, whose 17-year-old son was swept away by flood waters, and visited people in Diem Van village, Phuoc Thuan commune, Tuy Phuoc district where the flood separated many areas.

He also visited Tran Quang Dieu ward of Quy Nhon city and inspected the damage at two companies in Phu Tai industrial park.

According to the province’s report, by Nov. 5, typhoon Mirinae killed 18 people and injured 34 others. The heavy storm pulled down 341 houses, destroyed 4,592 and inundated 51,750 others.

It also ruined 4,240 ha of rice and more than 6,000 ha of farm produce. Added to this, it killed 2,229 buffaloes and oxen and 16,934 pigs.

The storm caused an estimated loss of 887 billion VND, including 300 billion VND in losses for Phu Tai industrial park alone./.
