Hanoi (VNA) - The Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam) will be responsible for the reconstruction of Kho Vang village residential area in Coc Lau commune, Bac Ha district, the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai, which was severely affected by a severe landslide caused by recent Typhoon Yagi.

According to local reports, the residential area has 17 households, of which five were washed away. Before the landslide occurred, village head Vang Seo Chu, 33, proactively evacuated 115 residents, all from the Mong ethnic group, to a safe area.

Currently, 115 residents have been brought to a safe shelter by local authorities, while efforts to restore the village after the storm are underway. Notably, 23 children from the affected households have been welcomed back to school since September 15, ensuring that their education can continue normally.

After three days of discussions, Petrovietnam and local authorities have agreed on a location for the reconstruction of the residential area that is not too far from the old site.

This weekend, representatives from the group will go to Lao Cai to survey the area and discuss specific plans with local authorities to expedite the construction of a new residential area for the community to stabilise their lives.

The resettlement area will cover approximately 2.5 hectares, providing housing for around 40 households, and be built in a cinnamon hill area, about 1 km from the old location, in Coc Lau commune, Bac Ha district.

As of September 18, Petrovietnam, its affiliates, organisations, and employees had donated a total of 44.65 billion VND (1.8 million USD). The group plans to provide support to 21 provinces and cities./.
