An Giang (VNA) – Over 150 officials, vessel owners, captains, and fishermen in Phu Quoc special zone of An Giang province attended a conference on November 8, focusing on laws and regulations related to preventing and combating illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Officers of Coast Guard Region 4 briefed participants on the Prime Minister’s Official Dispatch No. 198/CD-TTg, which orders the peak month of action against IUU fishing and promotes sustainable fisheries development. They also introduced Resolution No. 04/2024/NQ-HDTP of the Supreme People’s Court, guiding the Penal Code’s application in prosecuting illegal fishing, trading, and transport of aquatic products.
At the conference, vessel owners signed commitments to comply with anti-IUU regulations at sea.
Leaders of Coast Guard Region 4 said the campaign aims to raise awareness of the Party's guidelines and the State's laws on IUU prevention and control, fostering responsibility and cooperation among fishermen, captains, and vessel owners. The initiative also supports Vietnam’s efforts to have the European Commission’s “yellow card” warning lifted, strengthen maritime management, safeguard sovereignty, and promote sustainable marine economic development.
On this occasion, Coast Guard Region 4 presented 10 gift packages worth 1 million VND (38 USD) each to disadvantaged fishing families and donated national flags, portraits of President Ho Chi Minh, first-aid kits, and hundreds of leaflets and handbooks to local fishermen./.
