– Prime MinisterNguyen Xuan Phuc suggested the northeastern province of Quang Ninh devise astrategy to develop tourism as its spearhead economic sector, especially in the remainingmonths of this year and during the new tenure of the provincial Party Organisation.

During a workingsession with provincial leaders in Quang Ninh on May 24, the PM lauded the province for drastically and effectively following the Party and State's guidelines onCOVID-19 prevention and control though the province has a long borderline andhosts a large number of foreigners.

The province wasalso hailed for making breakthroughs in urban development, reaching over 65percent, and becoming the first locality nationwide to set up a public administrativeservice centre.

PM Phuc expressedhis impression on its tourism reboot following the COVID-19 as well as infrastructure development with a number of major works, especially expressways under the public-privatepartnership (PPP) model.

On the occasion, heasked Quang Ninh to continue taking the vanguard in becoming a development hub notonly in the northeastern region but also in the whole northern region, contributing to the country's socio-economic development.

About specificmoves, the PM proposed that the province should pay attention to developing businesses, continuing with modern urban development and new-style ruralbuilding, as well as human resources training from school to university levels to meet demand for socio-economic development.

He noted that theprovince should thoroughly prepare for the Congress of the provincial Party Organisation, towardsthe 13th National Party Congress, in combination with the Party buildingwork.

According to theProvincial Competitiveness Index rankings announced by the Vietnam Chamber ofCommerce and Industry (VCCI) and the US Agency for International Development (USAID)on May 5, Quang Ninh still maintained its top position for the thirdconsecutive year.

On May 19, the GovernmentSteering Committee for Administrative Reform announced that Quang Ninh rankedfirst in the Public Administration Reform Index 2019(PAR INDEX) and the Satisfaction Indexof Public Administration Services (SIPAS) 2019.

Asone of the top five contributors to the State budget, Quang Ninh achieved agross regional development product (GRDP) growth rate of nearly 11 percent from2016-2019. The average income per capita topped 6,100 USD in 2019, doubling thecountry’s average.

With tourismgradually becoming a spearhead economic sector, local hotels and resorts of three starsand above now offer 7,500 rooms, up 68 percent from 2015. The province served14 million visitors last year, 5.75 million of them were foreigners.

It was also amongthe best performers nationwide in terms of budget collection with nearly 163trillion VND (7 billion USD) during 2016-2019, and PPP investment attractionwith 44 projects worth 47 trillion VND.

Recently, Quang Ninhlaunched a tourism stimulus package worth 200 billion VND to revive domestictourism after the COVID-19 pandemic is controlled.

On this occasion, PMPhuc also cut the ribbons to inaugurate several works in Quang Ninh province./.

Vinh Phuc urged to take more drastic actions for stronger growth

Vinh Phuc's GRDP growth for 2021–2025 is projected at 7.4%, with total economic output expected to reach 190 trillion VND (7.45 billion USD) by 2025, 1.53 times higher than in 2020. National conference on provincial mergers scheduled
