PM Dung meets with Cuban State Council Vice President

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on March 26 had a working session with Miguel Diaz Canel Bermudex, First Vice President of the State Council and the Council of Ministers of Cuba, in Havana as part of his official visit to the country.

The two leaders reviewed the Vietnam-Cuba cooperation and discussed measures to deepen their ties in a result-oriented manner, stressing the importance of mutual consultation and close coordination between the two parties, Governments and peoples.

PM Dung affirmed Vietnam is willing to assist and collaborate with Cuba in fields that suit both countries’ strength and needs, noting that the intensification of their special partnership will help foster ties between Cuba and East Asia as well as those of Vietnam and the Latin America.

Both sides agreed that their ministries and sectors will incessantly expand cooperation through maximising the political consultation mechanism between the two Foreign Ministries and close consultation on regional and international issues, as well as mutual support at multilateral forums.

The two leaders laid importance on economic affiliation, with a view of bringing it on a par with the close political ties between the two countries. They said new opportunities have appeared for bilateral economic bonds, and expressed the determination to well carry out agreements reached at the 31 st meeting of the Vietnam-Cuba Inter-Governmental Committee in Hanoi last September.

In responding to the Cuban side’s request for assistance in agriculture, PM Dung affirmed that Vietnam will continue to help Cuba in maize and soybean cultivation and aquaculture projects.

At the session, the two leaders also tabled measures to boost their partnership in health care, biotechnology, oil and gas, construction, tourism, electronics and telecommunication.

They spoke highly of the signing of cooperation agreements and memoranda of understanding in various fields, helping perfect the legal framework for bilateral comprehensive cooperation.

On March 27, PM Dung is scheduled to meet with the Cuban National Assembly President, and visit the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, the Cuba-Vietnam Friendship Association.-VNA
