PM’s visits to Laos, Cambodia help foster bilateral ties

Hanoi (VNA) – The official visits made by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc toCambodia and Laos wrapped up successfully, contributing to nurturing thespecial trustful political relations and boosting practical cooperation in allfields between Vietnam and the two countries.

Thestatement was made by Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Dinh Quy in an interviewgranted to media on the outcomes of the visits which took place from April 24-27.

Quysaid during the visits, PM Phuc and his Cambodian and Lao counterpartsdiscussed many issues, including long-standing problems related to border, theVietnamese community and the promotion of economic and educational cooperation.

Thetwo sides agreed on orientations and specific measures to intensify bilateralties and deal with existing difficulties, reflected through the signing of 13agreements ranging from transport, trade, education, energy, agriculture tocooperation between their localities.

TheDeputy Minister mentioned two outstanding successes of the Government leader’svisits, including achievements in discussions about the legal status of theVietnamese expatriates in Cambodia and an agreement allowing Laos to manage anduse several port wharfs in Ha Tinh province’s Vung Ang economic zone.

Specifically,within the framework of the visits, the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year 2017 andthe Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2017 were launched, he added.

Thediplomat stressed that the visits by the Government leader once again affirmVietnam’s determination to maintain and tighten its special solidarity withCambodia and Laos.

Thevisits created a new motivation to promote Vietnam’s relations with the twocountries more practically and effectively.

Long-termorientations to make the Vietnam-Cambodia and Vietnam-Laos relations developsustainably were set forth, while directions were made to tackle existingdifficulties.

Inthe context of complicatedly and unpredictably developing regional andinternational situations, PM Phuc’s official visits to Cambodia and Laos onceagain assert the value of the sustainable and special relations between Vietnamand the two countries, contributing to maintaining peace, security, stability,and development in the region and the world, Quy added.-VNA
