Poland to help fund mausoleum work

Poland has committed 840 million VND (roughly 40,000 USD) to fund a project to refurbish Mausoleum of King Tu Duc (1829-83) in the Hue royal heritage complex.

Poland has committed 840 million VND (roughly 40,000 USD) to fund aproject to refurbish Mausoleum of King Tu Duc (1829-83) in the Hueroyal heritage complex.

The aid, granted by Poland's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and channeled through the Polish Embassyin Hanoi, will be used to restore a stone stele house at themausoleum and provide training to local people in preservation.

The restoration project will be carried out until December at a totalcost of more than 1 billion VND (50,000 USD), according to Nguyen VanCao, Chairman of the Thua Thien-Hue Provincial People's Committee.

King Tu Duc's mausoleum, built in 1864, is a typical example oftraditional Hue architecture and one of the most important sites inthe royal relics complex, which has been recognised by UNESCO as a WorldCultural Heritage site.

Since 1993, the internationalcommunity has granted nearly 6 million USD to help preserve intangibleand tangible cultural heritage in Vietnam. Poland is one of thefirst countries providing aid.-VNA
