Hanoi (VNA) – The PartyCentral Committee held a meeting in Hanoi on January 31 to consider and makedecisions on personnel affairs.

The committee discussed the wishes tocease holding positions, stop working, and retire of Tran Tuan Anh, Politburomember, member of the 13th Party Central Committee and Chairman ofthe Party Central Committee’s Economic Commission; and Phan Viet Cuong, memberof the 13th Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Quang Namprovincial Party Committee.

Anh was a high-ranking official ofthe Party and State and entrusted with some important leadership positions bythe Party Central Committee and Politburo. As Secretary of the Party Civil Affairs Committee and Minister of Industry and Trade in the 2016 - 2021 tenure, he exerted effortsin leading and directing activities of the industry and trade sector to obtainsignificant results. However, he bore the political responsibility of a leader forletting many violations occur at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and many officials and Party members break law and thus, be subject to criminal, Party, andadministrative punishments. Deeply aware of his responsibility towards theParty and people, he submitted a proposal to cease holding positions, stopworking, and retire.

Meanwhile, Cuong was also a high-ranking official of the Party and State and entrustedwith some important leadership positions in his locality by the Party CentralCommittee and Politburo. As Secretary of the Quang Nam provincial PartyCommittee in the 2015 - 2020 and 2020 - 2025 tenures, he exerted efforts inperforming duties. However, he bore the political responsibility of a leader forletting many subordinate Party organisations and members commit violations causingserious consequences and thus, be subject to discipline, some have even been givencriminal punishments. Deeply aware of his responsibility towards the Party andpeople, he submitted a proposal to cease holding positions, stop working, andretire.

Basing on the Party and State’s existing rules and the officials’ personalwishes, the Party Central Committee agreed to allow Anh to cease holding themembership of the Politburo and the Party Central Committee in the 13th tenure, and Cuong to cease holding the membership of the Party CentralCommittee in the 13th tenure.

At the meeting, the Party Central Committee also considered disciplinarymeasures against Tran Duc Quan, member of the Party Central Committee andSecretary of the Lam Dong provincial Party Committee, and Nguyen Nhan Chien, former member of the Party Central Committee and former Secretary of the BacNinh provincial Party Committee.

Quan and Chien showed degradation in political thought, morality, andlifestyle; had negative acts; infringed the Party’s regulations and the State’slaw while performing their assigned responsibilities and tasks, the rules onthe things Party members must not do, along with the responsibility for settinggood examples. Their violations resulted in very serious consequences, stirredpublic concern, and caused very bad impacts on local Party organisations andadministrations, the Party Central Committee said.

Basing on the content, nature,levels, and consequences of violations and on the Party’s regulations, theParty Central Committee decided to expel Quan and Chien from the Party.

It also assigned the Politburo todirect relevant agencies to carry out procedures in line with regulations./.
