President arrives in Vientiane, beginning official visit to Laos

President Vo Van Thuong and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived in Vientiane on April 10 morning, beginning an official visit to Laos at the invitation of General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith.

Vientiane (VNA) – President Vo Van Thuong and ahigh-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived in Vientiane on April 10 morning, beginning an official visit to Laos at the invitation of General Secretary of the LaoPeople’s Revolutionary Party and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith.

The Vietnamese leader and his delegation were welcomed by Chairwoman of the Lao Presidential Office KhemaniPholsena, Mayor of Vientiane Atsaphangthong Siphandone,  Deputy Foreign Minister Thongphane Savanphet,Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Sengphet Houngboungnuang, representatives of the LaoMinistry of Foreign Affairs, and Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung.

Thousands of local people waved the national flags of Vietnam and Laos, and flowers alongthe streets from the Wattay internationalairport to the inner city to welcome the Vietnamese President.

President Thuong's visit shows Vietnam'sstrong and comprehensive support for the renovation, socio-economic recoveryand development, and international integration of Laos. 

During his visit, President Thuong will attend anofficial welcome ceremony, hold talks with Lao Party General Secretary and PresidentThongloun Sisoulith, witness a signing ceremony of cooperation documentsbetween the two nations, and have meetings with the Prime Minister and the NationalAssembly Chairman of Laos.

He will also receive the Chairman of the Lao Front for NationalConstruction (LFNC) Central Committee, and the Chairman of the Laos –Vietnam Friendship Association; attend an official reception chaired by the LaoParty General Secretary;  and meet withrepresentatives of the Vietnamese Embassy and community in the country./.

Defence, security cooperation is an important pillar of Vietnam–Laos ties: PM

Expressing his pleasure at the positive development of the special relationship between Vietnam and Laos, the PM highlighted defence and security cooperation as an important pillar of the bilateral ties. He praised the two defence ministries and armies for implementing high-level agreements, strengthening mutual trust and helping maintain a peaceful and stable environment conducive to socio-economic development.

Vietnam, Cambodia sign defence cooperation plan for 2027

Giang called on agencies and units of the two defence ministries to implement agreed cooperation programmes, focusing on political and ideological education to strengthen political trust, and cooperation between military services and arms. The two sides should step up coordination in border management and protection to build a Vietnam-Cambodia border of peace, cooperation and development.

Deputy PM visits China’s Tsinghua University, seeking closer educational cooperation

Tsinghua has worked to implement the Vietnamese and Chinese leaders’ orientations for higher education cooperation. Last year, it admitted 27 Vietnamese students and postgraduates, the highest number to date, all of whom received scholarships.
