President Truong Tan Sang and leaders of the Kazakh Parliament have emphasised the importance of promoting cooperation between the two parliaments, especially in ratifying and implementing agreements between Vietnam and Kazakhstan.

The agreement was reached between the Vietnamese State leader and Chairman of the Kazakh Senate Kairat Mami and Chairman of Mazhilis of the Kazakh Parliament (lower chamber) Nurlan Nigmatulin at separate meetings on Sept. 10 in Astana during the President’s official State visit to Kazakhstan .

At his meeting with the Kazakh Senate leader, both host and guest agreed on measures to promote the two legislative bodies’ relationship, including increasing the exchange of delegations.

They reached consensus on further enhancing coordination at international and regional parliamentary forums.

During their meeting, later on the same day, Chairman Nigmatulin highlighted Vietnam ’s socio-economic development achievements after 25 years of renewal and its position in the international arena.

Both sides agreed to beef up cooperation in economics, trade and investment in which both sides have strengths and potentials, including oil and gas, agriculture, processing, textiles and apparels and tourism.

On the same day, President Sang paid floral tribute at a memorial to fallen Kazakh combatants who laid down their lives for the nation.

President Truong Tan Sang and his Kazakh counterpart Nursultan Nazarbayev attended the opening ceremony of the Vietnam Culture Days in Kazakhstan .

At the ceremony, the Vietnamese Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Kazakh Minister of Culture and Information laid stress on the significance of the event, affirming that the two sides will organise cultural activities to increase the two peoples’ mutual understanding.

The two presidents also attended an artistic performance programme highlighting Vietnam ’s culture and the two countries’ friendship and solidarity.

President Sang also met former Kazakh experts who helped Vietnamese people in national construction and defence and the Vietnamese embassy staff and representatives of the Vietnamese people community in Kazakhstan.-VNA
