President To Lam on July 25 received a high-ranking Cambodian delegation led by Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and President of the Cambodian Senate, who are in Hanoi to attend the state funeral of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Hanoi (VNA) – President To Lam on July 25 received a high-ranking Cambodian delegation led by Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian People's Party (CPP) and President of the Cambodian Senate, who are in Hanoi to attend the state funeral of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Hun Sen conveyed the condolences from the CPP, Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni, National Assembly, Senate and people of Cambodia to the Party, State, National Assembly and people of Vietnam over the passing of Party General Secretary Trong.

The CPP leader praised the great contributions by Party General Secretary Trong to the Party, State and people of Vietnam, underlining that he was a revolutionary who devoted his whole life to the nation and people of Vietnam and reinforced the ties between the Parties, States and people of Vietnam and Cambodia.

Hun Sen recalled memories of his meetings with Party General Secretary Trong, and thanked Vietnam for saving Cambodia from the genocide disaster in the past and supporting the country in building and developing the country today, emphasising that under the leadership of General Secretary Trong, Vietnam has achieved important achievements in socio-economic development and Party building.

He affirmed that Cambodia will always preserve, nurture and further develop the relationship between the two Parties, the two countries and their people.

For his part, President Lam thanked the CPP Central Committee, the King and leaders of Cambodia for extending condolences to Vietnam over General Secretary Trong’s passing.

During his working process, General Secretary Trong paid great attention to the construction, reinforcement and development of the sound Vietnam-Cambodia relations, he stated.

The Vietnamese State leader highlighted the tradition of cooperation and mutual support between the two Parties and countries as well as the ties among the Parties and countries of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos over the years. Lam expressed his delight at the growing relations between Vietnam and Cambodia across all fields.

President Lam gave ideas on a number of cooperation fields between the two countries, especially in economy, trade, connection of the two economies, collaboration in the Mekong Sub-region, the development triangle, and ASEAN.

He affirmed that Vietnam will do its best, together with the CPP, the State and the people of Cambodia, to forever preserve and foster the Vietnam-Cambodia good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation, and long-term sustainability, making the ties deeper for the benefits of the two countries' people as well as for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world./.
