The northern port city of Hai Phong should make greater efforts to curb inflation, cut public spending for cash to go into half-completed projects and effectively implement social welfare policies.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the request while meeting with Hai Phong voters on August 17.
The voters proposed the National Assembly increase its supervision of the implementation of the Party and State’s policies at the grassroots level, especially in the fields of environmental protection, administrative reforms and social welfare policies.
They urged the Government to pay more attention to education and training and developing seaport and airport systems nationwide in a harmonious way.
The Government should speed up the implementation of key infrastructure projects such as the Hanoi - Hai Phong expressway, the Lach Huyen deepwater port, the Tien Lang airport and a coastal road from northeastern Quang Ninh province to central Thanh Hoa province via Hai Phong, they said.
The voters also asked for more attention to building new areas in the city’s suburbs, focusing on water supply systems, health services and school infrastructure.
PM Dung affirmed that the Party and State focused resources on education and training, especially the quality of tertiary education and vocational training, as well as education reforms in primary and secondary schools and kindergartens.
On the voters’ opinions on the recent East Sea situation, the Government leader stressed that Vietnam remains consistent with the policy of settling disputes in the East Sea through peaceful measures on the foundation of international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, as well as strongly opposing all violations of the country’s sovereignty and legitimate marine interests./.
