Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the statement while hosting areception for Commander-in-Chief of Myanmar Armed Forces Gen. Min AungHlaing, in Hanoi on Nov. 14.

He spoke highly ofresults of the talks and the signing of a memorandum of understandingon defence cooperation between the two countries, expressing his hopethat Min Aung Hlaing’s visit will contribute to beefing up the bilateralrelations.

Vietnam is delighted at Myanmar’s achievements, especially the country’s success in the recent generalelection and the establishment of the new Government, Dung said,expressing his wish that the two countries would step up cooperation ineconomics, trade and investment and support each other at multilateralforums.

He suggested Myanmar support Vietnamesemilitary enterprises to invest in the country, especially intelecommunications, banking and agricultural production.

Dung’s views were shared by Min Aung Hlaing, who said his visit aimsto strengthen cooperation between the armies and people of the twocountries, especially in discussions about specific cooperative areas.

Earlier, Min Aung Hlaing met withVietnamese Defence Minister General Phung Quang Thanh, who said theMyanmar army chief’s first visit to Vietnam is an important milestonethat opens up a new period of development in the defence ties betweenthe two countries, contributing to boosting the time-honoured solidarityand friendship between the armed forces and people of Vietnam andMyanmar.

The Myanmar Commander-in-Chiefexpressed his hope that his visit will reap fruitful results and help tobolster cooperation in military and national defence between the twocountries’ armies.

The two sides briefed each otherabout their country’s socio-economic development and exchangedexperience in building armed forces while discussing international andregional situations.

They reached consensus onmeasures to enhance cooperation in exchange of delegations, strategicdefence dialogue, military medical care, exchange of intelligenceinformation, coping with non-traditional security challenges and otherareas of mutual concern.

After the meeting, Thanhand Min Aung Hlaing inked a memorandum of understanding on bilateraldefence cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces./.
