Quang Ninh (VNA) – PrimeMinister Pham Minh Chinh on February 12 described Quang Ninh as a miniatureVietnam that holds a strategic position in terms of politics, economy, defence,security, and diplomacy.

He was addressing a meeting with officialsof the northeastern province after a conference launching the Government’saction plan for implementing the Politburo’s Resolution No 30-NQ/TW onsocio-economic development in the Red River Delta.

The provincial Party Committeereported that Quang Ninh has continually recorded double-digit growth ratesduring 2016 - 2022, even amid the COVID-19 pandemic, while the economicstructure has been shifting in a sustainable manner. The local economy has beenexpanding fast and reached some 269 trillion VND (11.4 billion USD) at the endof 2022; per capita GDRP topped 8,200 USD – the highest in the northern region;and labour productivity increased over 13%.

It attracted 2.15 billion USD inforeign direct investment between 2020 and 2022; posted over 7.68 billion USDin exports, up more than 9% annually; and ranked first nationwide in theProvincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) rankings during 2017 - 2021.

Local officials also highlightedattainments in environmental protection, natural disaster and climate changeresponse, social security ensuring, defence, security and national sovereignty safeguarding,diplomacy, and the Party and political system building.

In his remarks, PM Chinh highlyvalued Quang Ninh’s efforts and achievements, noting that it boasts manyfavourable conditions for socio-economic development and is also the only inVietnam to share both land and sea borders with China.

He asked the province to fullycapitalise on transport corridors; promote connectivity among its localitiesand with other provinces and cities; develop a green and clean environment, civilisedsociety, and developed culture; and boost both the speed and quality of growth intandem with innovation, digital transformation, green transition, circulareconomy, and climate change fight.

Quang Ninh needs to continuedeveloping strategic infrastructure, especially transport facilities; step upadministrative reform and digital transformation, particularly in finance,taxation, and customs; properly manage and bring into play the values of localrelic sites and scenic landscapes; and pay more attention to human resourcestraining, the Government leader went on.

The PM also ordered building a cleanand strong Party organisation and political system, and ramping up the combatagainst corruption, negative phenomena, and wastefulness.

Later the same day, the leader made afact-finding trip of the Dong Mai Industrial Park in Quang Yen town and somemajor projects there./.

PM proposes “Talented, creative and dedicated women” award

This year’s award went to a group of female scientists from Hanoi University of Science and Technology for their research cluster on applying biocatalysis to enhance the value of Vietnamese agricultural products. The individual award was presented to Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Viet Nga, Director of the Vietnam–Japan Institute of Advanced Technology and senior lecturer at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, for research linked to environmental protection, energy security and climate change adaptation.

Vietnam co-chairs 5th ASEAN–UK joint cooperation committee meeting

Ambassador Ton Thi Ngoc Huong, Head of Vietnam’s Mission to ASEAN, affirmed that Vietnam will work closely with ASEAN member states to achieve the objectives set for the fifth anniversary year. Vietnam, Russia step up cooperation in civil defence, emergency response

Looking ahead, the Vietnamese side expressed its wish that the two sides would continue to promote cooperation, focusing on the exchange of delegations at all levels, training programmes, sharing of experience in civil defence, disaster prevention and emergency management, and exploring search and rescue equipment.
