Quang Ninh (VNA) — The northern coastal province of Quang Ninh has temporarily established 10 fishing vessel inspection and control points at ports, wharves and storm shelters in line with recommendations from the European Commission (EC) to strengthen oversight and improve the traceability of seafood products.

As part of the Prime Minister’s nationwide campaign against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, departments, agencies and local authorities of Quang Ninh have stepped up coordination, recording initial progress in managing fishing vessels and handling violations.

On December 13 to 14, the province's police, in coordination with relevant agencies, conducted on-site inspections at nine of the 10 control points.

Inspectors identified several shortcomings and operational limitations. Difficulties and recommendations raised by local authorities were recorded for submission to the provincial People’s Committee, with a view to directing timely corrective actions.

In the coming period, Quang Ninh will continue to implement government and ministerial directives on combating IUU fishing, contributing to efforts to meet the EC’s recommendations and move toward the lifting of the yellow card warning against Vietnam’s seafood exports./.
