Quang Ninh (VNA) - Construction work started on April 9 on the restoration of Quynh Lam Pagoda in the national special relic site of Tran Dynasty in the northern province of Quang Ninh.
Located on the west side of Tien Du Mountain in Dong Trieu District, the pagoda was initially built under the reign of King Ly Than Tong (1116-1138) by Monk Nguyen Minh Khong. The pagoda also housed a giant statue of Maitreya Buddha, which was considered one of the four Great Treasures of the country then.
The pagoda became one of the most important Buddhist training centres in the country in the Tran Dynasty.
However, it was serious damaged when the Ming Chinese invaded the country. The great statue was also destroyed.
The restoration of the pagoda has a total investment of over 163 billion VND ( 7.2 million USD). The work includes the building of a 3,720 sq.m worshipping temple with a front, a central and a rear chambers, corridors, a house of steles and other facilities in line with their original structure and architecture.-VNA
