Quang Ninh takes numerous policies to support people with disabilities

Authorities of the northern province of Quang Ninh have implemented a series of policies to support and improve the lives of people with disabilities, and ensure social security in the locality.

QuangNinh (VNA) – Authorities of the northern province of Quang Ninh have implemented a series of policies to support and improve the lives of peoplewith disabilities, and ensure social security in the locality.  

Typically, there is a policy to cover the cost oforthopedic surgery and vocational rehabilitation for local people with motordisabilities. Local disabled people are supported with all costs of orthopedic surgeryand orthopedic equipment.

Since2013, more than 1,924 people with motor disabilities have received health screening,while 238 others have had orthopedic surgery and been equipped with orthopedicequipment with a total value of 3.2 billion VND.

The locality has approved a project to support inclusive education for childrenwith disabilities and autism in educational institutions. Local students withdisabilities have been exempted from fees and enjoy local policies.

Inthe 2020 – 2021 academic year, the number of children with disabilities who canparticipate in inclusive education programmes at educational establishments reachedat least 70 percent.

To encourage people with disabilities joining vocational training programmes,the province approved a list of 45 occupations and occupational groups for primarylevel training, training costs and support levels for each occupation withspecial regulations on training costs and vocational training support levelsfor people with disabilities.

The locality allocates a budget of 10-15 billion VND every year to support vocationaltraining for disabled people.

So far, as many as 844 people with disabilities who have the ability to work have been provided with vocational training. Fourteen production and businessestablishments have been set up with at least 30 percent of their total employeebeing disabled people. Enterprises employing people with disabilities have beensupported with capital from the provincial fund for people with disabilities.

LanhThe Vinh, chairman of the provincial sponsoring association for people with disabilitiesand orphans, said the locality has always paid special attention to disabledpeople with specific and practical policies, thus giving them equalopportunities to promote their capacity and contribute to society./.

The two gold medallists are Tran Trung Kien, a 12th grader from the Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, who scored 169.25 points, and Nguyen Ngo Duc, a 12th grader from the Phan Boi Chau High School for the Gifted in Nghe An province, who scored 151.05 points.

Vietnam among countries with high human development: UNDP report

According to the report, which evaluates human development progress based on the Human Development Index (HDI), tracking achievements in health, education and income, Vietnam’s HDI in 2023 reached 0.766, ranking 93rd out of 193 countries and territories. This marked a substantial leap from 0.499 in 1990, representing a 53.5% increase, a notable trajectory of growth over more than three decades.

Local officials are required to strengthen on-the-ground inspections and take prompt action to address any signs of stagnation or lack of accountability in executing the campaign. They are also tasked with completing administrative procedures to ensure timely disbursement of financial support to eligible households, avoiding overlap or omission in beneficiary identification.

Xuyen Viet Oil case: Appellate verdict announced, with six receiving reduced sentences

Specifically, the trial panel sentenced the mastermind of the case, Mai Thi Hong Hanh, ex-Director and Chairwoman of the Board of Members of Xuyen Viet Oil, to 11 years in prison for the crime of “giving bribes” and 17 years for “violating regulations on the management and use of State assets, causing loss and wastefulness.” The combined sentence is 28 years in prison, 2 years less than the first-instance verdict.
