Quang Tri: 227-kilo bomb safely handled

A mobile bomb and mine clearance team from PeaceTrees Vietnam safely handled a 227 kg bomb left over from the war in Luong Le village, Tan Hop commune, in Huong Hoa district, central Quang Tri province.

Quang Tri (VNA) - A mobile bomb and mineclearance team from PeaceTrees Vietnam safely handled a 227 kg bomb left overfrom the war in Luong Le village, Tan Hop commune, in Huong Hoa district, centralQuang Tri province.

Discovered by quarrymen, the bomb was about 20 metres underground.

The US-made MK82 bomb was 1.54 metres in length. Ittook the team two hours to approach it, evaluate its condition, and then removeand destroy it.

PeaceTrees Vietnam is a US non-governmentalorganisation specialising in healing the legacyof war by removing unexploded ordnance(UXO) and returning the land to safe use.

Quang Tri is the most severelycontaminated place for bombs and mines in Vietnam. It has seen over 3,400deaths and 5,100 injuries from UXO since the war ended in 1975./.

“I love my fatherland” journey 2026 launched

The “I Love My Fatherland” journey will comprise seven stages linked to historical, cultural and revolutionary sites across the country. The journey will begin in Nghe An on May 16 to mark President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday, before continuing through Hue city, Tuyen Quang–Lung Cu Flag Tower, Dien Bien, Khanh Hoa, Ca Mau and Ho Chi Minh City, and concluding in Hanoi in October.
