Vietnam’s central province of Quang Tri and the Lao province of Savanakhet on September 11 reviewed the implementation of the 2011 memorandum of understanding on their border work.
The talks on border and land marker planting work in Dong Ha city, Quang Tri province were attended by Deputy Chairman of Quang Tri provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Quan Chinh and Deputy Governor of Savanakhet province Khamphoi Thachon.
Both sides have closely worked to conduct joint patrols, prevent and deal with violations of border regulations, as well as fight crimes.
Regarding border marker planting, the two sides completed 31 out of 35 markers.
At the talks, both sides agreed to strengthen exchanges, friendship and promote traditional ties between the two provinces and people along the common border line.
They will propose their concerned central and local agencies to create favourable conditions for businesses and passengers in fulfilling procedures to cross the border. They also agreed to invest in upgrading transport systems and building infrastructure at border gate areas, increase education for local people to raise their awareness on border marker system, maintain political stability, and protect the common border line.-VNA
