The Yasaka Saigon Nha Trang Hotel in the central province ofKhanh Hoa on Feb. 5 divided its 36-m banh tet (cylindric glutinousrice cake) for sale to collect money for the charity purpose.
Dong Luong Son, General Director of the hotel, said all proceeds fromthe sale of the cake, the longest of its kind in the country, which areestimated at around 36 million VND, will be used to provide free medicalcheck-ups and treatment for the poor and support excellent students inthe province.
The cake, measuring 0.2 m in diameter and weighing 780 kg, was made by more than 90 cooks of the hotel.
The next Lunar New Year Festival, the hotel plans to make anothercylindric glutinous rice cake with a length of up to 37 m, Son added.
The hotel produced the first cylindric glutinousrice cake, at a length of 29 m, in 2004 and since then has made similarlonger cakes to collect money for charity activities./.
