Gia Lai (VNA) – The trans-nation Red Journey blood donation campaign kicked offin Chu Pah district, the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai on June 26, withmore than 500 officials, cadres, workers and students taking part.
More than330 units of blood were collected at the event.
It has beenthe third consecutive year the campaign was launched in Gia Lai, helping tocollect donated blood for the treatment of patients.
Deputy headof the campaign’s organising board Le Hoang Oanh said hospitals nationwideoften lack blood during summer so that the National Steering Committee forVoluntary Blood Donation holds the annual campaign to ease the scarce bloodsupply.
In 2017,nearly 1.5 million units of blood were collected nationwide, 98 percent of themwere from voluntary donors.
Over thepast five years, the campaign has come to 46 cities and provinces nationwide,raising public awareness of the effort and acquiring more than 120,000 blood units.
This year,the drive was scheduled to go through 26 cities and provinces.-VNA
Ceremony honouring outstanding blood donors held in Ninh Binh
The National Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation and the Ninh Binh province chapter of the Vietnam Red Cross Society held a ceremony on June 7 in Ninh Binh province to honour 100 outstanding blood donors.
