Repatriation ceremony held for US servicemen’s remains

A ceremony was held at Da Nang International Airport in the central city of Da Nang on June 18 to repatriate remains of US servicemen who died during the war in Vietnam.

Hanoi (VNA) - A ceremony was held atDa Nang International Airport in the central city of Da Nang on June 18 torepatriate remains of US servicemen who died during the war in Vietnam.

Attending the ceremony were representatives from the Board ofDirectors of Vietnam Office for Seeking Missing Personnel (VNOSMP), the USConsulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, the Defence POW/MIA Accounting Agency(DPAA) and the US MIA Office in Hanoi. 
            
The Vietnamese side’s representative handed over to the USside two boxes of remains that were handed over by Vietnamese people andrecovered during the 127th Joint Field Activities from April to June 2017.

The remains had been jointly reviewed and concluded byVietnam and US forensic specialists that they might be associated with the USservicemen missing during the war in Vietnam and were recommended to bring toHawaii, the US, for further review. 


Addressing the ceremony, the US Government representativeexpressed deep gratitude and appreciation for the steadfast humanitarianpolicy, good-will and the efficient cooperation of the Government and people ofVietnam.


The search for remains of US servicemen missing during thewar in Vietnam is humanitarian cooperation between the Governments of Vietnamand the US.

This is the 141st hand-over of American missing servicemen’sremains since 1973.-VNA
