Vientiane (VNA) – The Government of the Republic of Korea (RoK) has provided walk-in testing booths and essential medical equipment worth 1 million USD for Laos in support of its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the Vientiane Times.

The gifts were handed over at the Lao Ministry of Health on June 8 in presence of RoK Ambassador to Laos Im Moohong and Lao Minister Bounfeng Phommalaysith.

The newspaper quoted the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) as saying that the donation is part of the Agenda for Building Resilience against COVID-19 through the development cooperation programme under Korean Official Development Assistance.

The KOICA Office in Laos has been working in close partnership with the government and citizens of Laos since 2020.

To date, KOICA has contributed 1.2 million USD to help Laos prevent and control the spread of coronavirus by providing personal protective equipment, hygiene supplies and education, and essential medical equipment.

On June 10, the Lao Health Ministry announced additional four infections, including two transmitted in the community and two imported.

To date, the country has recorded 1,975 cases, including 1,807 recoveries and three deaths./.
